Ndapanda on Baycation at Midgard

Posted on Thu April 28, 2022 in News.

I find that I struggle with many things on days leading up to my travels. On some trips, I struggle with finding something to wear, on others, what to do with my hair but the thing I consistently have to fight with myself about is the distance I have to travel to make it to my destination.

Midgard does not have this problem.

The last time I had been to Midgard was almost 5 years ago, so imagine my surprise when I found that not only had the lodge been beautifully renovated, the road to the lodge is also now, largely tar.

Midgard is a short 70+ Kilometers from Okahandja, so if you're driving from Windhoek, travel distance would be a mere 120+km. A rare find in the Namibian travel context!

We arrived just in time for a late lunch, and were checked in in a matter of seconds before we could indulge in our ice-cold welcome drink and were driven off to our new, beautiful home.

We checked into the junior suite, which as a beautiful queen-sized bed, stunning garden view, coffee station, a Smart Tv (Which by the way is a rare find in Namibia) And a gorgeous, gorgeous ensuite bath. The place is beautiful!

Second to the beauty of the room, was the restaurant, The Barn.

I couldn't quite make out which between the gorgeous lamps and the strategically placed mirrors was my favorite. Goodness, the detail was amazing!

And the tones? Perfection.

For dinner, I went with a traditional beef burger and chips, whereas Andreas chose to have the Steak with Mash and other vegies. We quietly and peacefully enjoyed our dinner and had a goodnight's sleep on the first night.

Day 2.

The second day was perhaps the most eventful one for us. We had a spa session scheduled, The lodge organized a picnic for us and the one thing Andreas will not leave vacation without doing is swimming.

We had to take a dip in the large pool. Had to! So we got our day started. First, a hearty breakfast. The breakfast set up at Midgard reminds me of Strand Hotel Swakopmund, gave me some nostalgia as a matter of fact, just beautiful. We had a wide variety of options from the breads, the eggs, boerewors, bacon, the beans. did I mention cold breakfasts? fruits, yoghurt, an entire feast! Food may just be one of the best things about travel.

We had breakfast, and headed off to our treatments at the newly built Midgard Spa.

Andreas (My partner) described his massage as necessary, whereas my facial felt like the rejuvenation my skin so needed. I have very problematic skin so a facial here and there is an absolute necessity.

Our stay at Midgard was truly a breath of fresh air, and given the chance, we would go back over and over again because outside of the greenery. Staff food and atmosphere is amazing.
